Volleyball Takes Conn College Five Sets, Falls to WPI on Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-12, 0-4 NEWMAC) hosted their first tri-match of the year against crosstown foe WPI (9-7, 2-3 NEWMAC) and non-conference opponent Connecticut College (6-7) and were bested in both matches on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

WPI 3, Clark 0
  • The Cougars dropped the first set 25-16, fell 25-12 in the second set, and were bested 25-11 in the clinching set.
  • Clark recorded 24 kills, 24 assists, 33 digs, and three service aces.
  • Sophomore Isabella Alcott led the squad with eight kills and added seven digs.
  • Junior Harper Chinn tallied seven kills and eight digs.
  • Fellow junior Julia Dopazo (14) and sophomore Hannah Harrington (10) led the Cougars in assists.
  • Senior Yumeng Liu registered 10 digs and a service ace.
Connecticut College 3, Clark 2
  • The scarlet and white fell 26-24 and 25-13 in the first two sets, before storming back to win the next two 26-24 and 25-16, but dropped the final set 15-10.
  • Clark recorded 41 kills, 39 assists, 65 digs, 11 service aces, and 10 blocks.
  • Alcott registered a team-leading 11 kills in the contest.
  • Chinn and graduate student Isabella Smith each recorded eight kills.
  • Dopazo (18) and Harrington (18) tied for the team lead in assists, while Dopazo tallied four service aces.
  • Harrington led the Cougars with 16 digs, while Liu (13) and junior Katelyn Williams (11) also reached double-figures.
  • Junior Winifred Gakidis and sophomore Abigail Venis recorded five and four blocks respectively to lead the squad.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the court on Tuesday night when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
