NEWPORT, R.I. – The Clark University field hockey team (8-4, 0-4 NEWMAC) traveled into Rhode Island to take on Salve Regina (9-2, 2-2 NEWMAC) and fell 4-1 to the Seahawks on Tuesday night from Gaudet Field.
How it Happened
- The Cougars applied early offensive pressure to the Salve Regina backline as first-year Sedona Lee, senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, and first-year Olivia Bass each fired shots on goal that were saved within the first five minutes of action.
- Georgia Costello got the Seahawks on the board with a goal off a feed from Angelia Regels off a penalty corner in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Junior Rachel Reiter registered four saves in the second quarter and Lee fired a shot on target that was saved before Julia Decker scored Salve's second goal of the contest in the 24th minute as the team took a 2-0 advantage into the break.
- Reiter opened the third quarter with four saves before first-year Carys Mitchell and senior Alison Kopec each created chances that were stopped by Siany Ortez.
- Jordyn Pineau netted the Seahawks third goal of the evening and in the 42nd minute, senior Morgan Brown got Clark on the board with a shot in the circle off a feed from Bass to make it a 3-1 contest.
- Before the end of the third, Cacciapaglia fired a pair of shots that were saved and senior Jenna Beauchain sent in two services off penalty corners that were sent away.
- In the fourth, Reiter added four more saves and Kopec created Clark's final chance of the evening in the 56th minute after Elliot Lund found the back of the cage as Salve won 4-1.
