Women's Soccer Concedes Late Goal in Loss at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (4-3-4, 0-2-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Babson (5-1-4, 4-0-0 NEWMAC) for a midweek NEWMAC clash and battled to tie the game at 1-1, but conceded a goal in the 78th minute as they fell 2-1 from Hartwell-Rogers Field on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Georgia Louis tallied the first shot attempt of the game in the fourth minute that went wide left and junior Ava Lepro recorded her first save of the match in the eighth minute off a shot from Sarah Hogan as both teams created early chances.
  • In the 20th minute, Babson earned a free kick and after the ball was sent into the box, Lillian McAughan found the ball in a scrum and beat Lepro to give the Beavers a 1-0 advantage.
  • Sophomore Madeleine Reeves serviced in a corner in the 31st minute that was cleared away before Louis fired Clark's first chance of the game on goal that was saved by Maisie Creamer three minutes later.
  • Lepro recorded the final save of the half in the 39th minute as the Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the break.
  • Over the first five minutes of the second half, Lepro stopped two shots before both first-year Calabria Augustino and sophomore Selene Hammad created chances that were saved.
  • First-year Fotini Grontzos tallied a defensive save as Olga Metelkine beat the keeper and Grontzos got in the way of the shot in the 56th minute.
  • In the 65th minute, Augustino serviced in a corner that was headed by sophomore Madeleine Reeves and Creamer registered a save.
  • Rivera tied the match at 1-1 in the 71st minute as Louis sent a pass down the left side of the pitch, Rivera dribbled around the goalie, and found the back of the net.
  • Babson regained the lead six minutes later as Izzy Reid found Josie Lee and Lee dribbled into the middle of the defense and beat Lepro to go up 2-1.
  • Senior Jayme Brown fired Clark's last shot attempt of the game wide left in the 89th minute as the Cougars fell 2-1.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark recorded eight shots (five on target), earned three corner kicks, and drew seven fouls.
  • Rivera netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
  • Louis' assist was her seventh this year and 11th as a Cougar.
  • Lepro tallied four saves.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Smith in a NEWMAC clash beginning at 12:00 p.m.
