Women's Basketball Cruises to 80-55 Victory Over Curry

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's basketball team (4-0) extended their winning streak to four games with an 80-55 victory over Curry (1-2) on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage as junior Kailey Rios connected on a triple and both senior Olivia Shipley and first-year Atiya Watson scored.
  • Sophomore Cyriah Coleman and Watson combined for Clark's next four points and a pair of free throws from first-year Karilyn Perez-Guerrero extended their lead to 14-8.
  • Coleman closed out the quarter with four points and a first-year Gabrielle Watson made a layup as the Cougars took a 20-13 advantage into the second quarter.
  • After Curry cut the deficit to five, Clark rattled off nine straight points as Atiya Watson netted four points, Rios hit a three-pointer, and Shipley made a layup to push their lead to 29-15.
  • First-year Leilani Benson and senior Ashley Leighton combined for five points and a Watson free throw before the break extended Clark's lead to 39-23.
  • Shipley, Coleman, Rios, and senior Kiley Drezek combined for the Cougars first eight points of the third before Rios buried a triple off a feed from junior Catherine Antwi to take a 50-28 advantage.
  • Benson and Antwi each made free throws before Coleman closed out the quarter with five more points as the scarlet and white took a 61-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Rios, Shipley, Atiya Watson, junior Bella Galatt, Leighton, junior Mia Mabanag, junior Emma Drefs, and Gabrielle Watson all scored as the Cougars tallied an 80-55 victory.

  • Coleman led the team with 15 points, pulled down three rebounds, registered three steals, and two assists.
