Volleyball Falls to Babson in Straight Sets

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-22, 0-10 NEWMAC) traveled to Babson (19-6, 9-1 NEWMAC) for their final road contest of the season and dropped the match in straight sets 3-0 on Tuesday night from Staake Gymnasium.

The Cougars fell 25-13 in the first, 25-11 in the second, and 25-14 in the third set.

How it Happened
  • The scarlet and white and Beavers played to an early 5-5 tie as junior Julia Dopazo and sophomore Hannah Harrington each tallied service aces.
  • After Babson took a 15-7 edge, Clark rattled off four of the next points as Dopazo registered a service ace and both graduate student Isabella Smith and junior Harper Chinn tallied kills to make it a 16-11 advantage.
  • Junior Winifred Gakidis recorded Clark's final two kills of the set off feeds from Dopazo and Chinn before Gakidis added her third kill of the match to open the second set.
  • In the middle of the second set, sophomore Isabella Alcott and junior Katelyn Williams each registered kills before Smith tallied two more kills at the end of the set as Clark was bested 25-11.
  • Smith and sophomore Abigail Venis combined for the team's first three kills of the third set before Alcott and Chinn added kills later in the set.
  • Williams and Gakidis combined for a block and senior Yumeng Liu tallied a service ace before the end of the match as Clark fell 25-14.

  • Clark recorded 16 kills, 15 assists, 35 digs, and one block.
  • Smith led the team with four kills.
  • Chinn and Gakidis each tallied three kills.
