WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's basketball team (7-3) hosted their final game before the mini holiday break when they welcomed Framingham State (3-6) to the Kneller and registered a convincing 80-62 victory sparked by 30 points in the fourth quarter on Tuesday night.
How it Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 8-5 lead sparked by four points from junior Kailey Rios and two points from both juniors Olivia Shipley and Emma Drefs before first-year Atiya Watson made a layup with 4:21 as Clark pushed their edge to 10-5.
- Framingham State rattled off seven unanswered points scored by Faith Greene and a jumper from Rios tied the contest back up at 12-12 before Abigail Martin made a layup before the end of the quarter as the Rams led 14-12.
- Rios scored the first five points of the second quarter before the Rams netted five unanswered and another Watson layup tied the game up at 19-19 with 6:37 remaining.
- After Greene connected on another triple. Shipley made a free throw and a layup, with a sophomore Cyriah Coleman bucket in between to give Clark the lead back at 24-22.
- Watson and first-year Leilani Benson each scored before the break as the Rams took a 29-28 lead into the locker room.
- Framingham State scored the first four points of the third quarter before Clark went on a 11-3 run sparked by five points from junior Catherine Antwi and points from Drefs, Shipley, and Watson to give the scarlet and white a 39-36 lead with 6:03 to go.
- Watson netted six straight Clark points and Rios added five points as the Cougars pushed their lead to double-digits at 52-40.
- Watson, Coleman, and Antwi scored Clark's final six points of the third as the Cougars took a 58-48 lead into the fourth quarter sparked by a 30-point period.
- Benson and Coleman combined for the Cougars first three points of the fourth before Drefs netted six unanswered points and a layup from Antwi extended the edge to 70-54 with 5:08 remaining.
- Antwi then connected on a triple and Shipley, Coleman, junior Bella Galatt, and first-year Karilyn Perez-Guerrero all scored down the stretch as the Cougars prevailed 80-62.
