Strong Second Half Pushes Men's Basketball Past Babson in 91-70 Win

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University men's basketball team (13-7, 9-2 NEWMAC) extended their winning streak to five games, led by an explosive 53-point second half as the Cougars took down Babson (12-8, 6-5 NEWMAC) 91-70 on Saturday afternoon from the Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, the Cougars tied the all-time series with Babson at 42-42 and competed the season series sweep of the Beavers.

How it Happened
  • Babson jumped out to an early 14-10 lead despite eight quick points from senior Kekoa McArdle and a jumper from fellow senior Bruce Saintilus.
  • Sophomore Quentin Pridgen pulled Clark within two before Babson rattled off seven straight points to push the lead to as many as nine at 21-12, but Saintilus and senior Isaiah Taylor combined for the contests next five points as the Cougars trailed 21-17 with 8:47 remaining.
  • Graduate student Jordan Richard then hit a pair of three-pointers and two made jumpers from Taylor pulled Clark back within two at 29-27 with 6:20 to play in the half.
  • First-year Kyle Squires, Taylor, and Saintilus each hit three-pointers and a pair of Richard free throws before the half helped the Cougars take a 38-35 lead into the locker room.
  • Babson scored the first three points of the second half before McArdle and junior Reid Neumann combined for Clark's next five points to push the lead back to three.
  • After Saintilus, David Cross, and Pridgen traded points, Richard connected on a triple and Nate Amado kept it a three-point game at 50-47 with 14:08 to go.
  • The Cougars then went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes as Richard, Pridgen, Taylor, and first-year Boluwasefe John each scored three points as Clark now possessed a 62-47 advantage.
  • Saintilus and Richard combined for Clark's next 11 points to help extend the lead to over 20 at 73-52 before John threw down emphatic slam with 5:37 to play.
  • Richard and Neumann each hit triples down the stretch, while Taylor, Saintilus, and senior Caleb Henty Brown also scored and Babson got as close as 19, but the Cougars prevailed 91-70.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark made 29 shots, shot 56.9 percent from the floor, shot an efficient 75.0 percent from three (15-20), grabbed 32 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, and forced 16 turnovers.
  • Richard scored a season-high 23 points and matched a career-high with seven made three-pointers.
  • Saintilus added 17 points, including five made shots and free throws, while adding five assists.
  • Taylor netted 16 points, dished out five assists, and led the team with five steals.
  • McArdle also reached double-figures with 10 points.
  • John and Pridgen tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece.

Clark will return to the court on Wednesday night when they welcome Coast Guard to the Kneller for a conference contest beginning at 5:00 p.m.
