NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark women's basketball team (11-11, 3-5 NEWMAC) traveled to Coast Guard (15-7, 4-4 NEWMAC) in a midweek NEWMAC clash and were bested by the Bears 75-57 on Wednesday night from the Roland Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The Bears jumped out to a 15-4 lead over the first five minutes of play despite buckets from graduate student Alaina Schatzabel and sophomore Catherine Antwi.
- Antwi, sophomore Kailey Rios, and first-year Cyriah Coleman combined for the Cougars final five points of the first as the scarlet and white trailed 20-9.
- Coast Guard netted the first eight points of the second quarter before Clark scored seven straight points sparked by a triple from Antwi as well as buckets from Schatzabel and Rios to cut the deficit to 12 at 28-16 with 6:19 to play.
- Schatzabel, Antwi, and sophomore Emma Drefs combined to score the Cougars final 10 points of the period as Clark trailed 40-26 at the break.
- Schatzabel, sophomore Olivia Shipley, and Coleman netted Clark's first six points of the third before a bucket from Antwi made it a 50-34 contest in the middle of the quarter.
- Coleman, Antwi, Schatzabel, and Rios scored the Cougars final 10 points of the period as the scarlet and white as Clark trailed 59-44 heading into the fourth.
- The Bears opened the fourth on an 8-2 run despite a made bucket from Rios and over the rest of the contest, Shipley, Drefs, Antwi, and Coleman all scored as Clark fell 75-57.
