NEWPORT, R.I. – The Clark women's basketball team (11-12, 3-6 NEWMAC) traveled to Salve Regina (12-10, 5-4 NEWMAC) for their first road contest against the Seahawks since joining the NEWMAC and fell 82-63 on Saturday afternoon from the Rodgers Recreation Center.
How it Happened
- The Seahawks jumped out to an early 12-5 lead despite a made three-pointer sophomore Kailey Rios and a made layup from sophomore Catherine Antwi before first-year Cyriah Coleman netted four unanswered to pull within three at 12-9 with 4:03 remaining in the first.
- Coleman and Antwi scored Clark's final four points of the first quarter as the scarlet and white trailed 22-13 entering the second.
- Rios made a layup to bring the Cougars back within seven before Salve Regina rattled off seven straight points, but three points from graduate student Alaina Schatzabel made it a 31-16 contest.
- Rios and Antwi combined for Clark's final four points of the second quarter as the Seahawks took a 37-23 lead into the locker room.
- Antwi, Schatzabel, and sophomore Emma Drefs netted Clark's first six points of the third before a pair of free throws from sophomore Bella Galatt made it a 47-31 game.
- Junior Ashley Leighton, Rios, and Schatzabel all scored before the end of the third as Salve Regina took a 57-35 lead into the fourth.
- The Cougars opened the fourth on an 9-4 run as Schatzabel scored four points, Antwi connected on a three-pointer, and sophomore Olivia Shipley made it a 62-44 contest.
- Coleman led the way with eight points down the stretch, Schatzabel added four points, and Galatt, Antwi, and Rios all scored as Clark fell 82-63.
