Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 19-8 Victory Over Gordon

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (1-0) recorded their first victory of the season with a convincing 19-8 victory over Gordon (0-1) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia netted Clark's first goal of the season less than two minutes into the game and less than a minute later, first-year Paige Kemish scored off a feed from senior Erin Lucas to put the Cougars up 2-0.
  • Senior Aubrey Conners extended the scarlet and white's lead to 3-0 with a goal off a pass from first-year Morgan Glover before Kaitlyn Mini netted the Fighting Scots first goal of the season.
  • Conners and Cacciapaglia each scored off feeds from graduate student Greer McCarty and Lucas to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead, but Gordon netted two unanswered to end the first to make it a 5-4 contest.
  • Lucas and Conners helped Clark net the first two goals of the second, with Cacciapaglia and Lucas tallying assists and despite a pair of saves from senior Annie Battle, the Fighting Scots rattled off two straight to pull within one at 7-6.
  • Lucas opened the third quarter with a man-down goal and another goal from Conners with 7:29 to go in the third helped push Clark's advantage to 9-6.
  • First-year Sydney McMonagle scored her first career goal off a free position shot with less than five minutes to play in the third and after a goal from Caroline Piorkowski, Lucas found the back of the cage after a successful clear.
  • Sophomore Sarah Forester ended the third with a goal off a feed from Lucas as the scarlet and white took a 12-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Clark opened the fourth with four unanswered goals as Lucas, Kemish, McCarty, and Cacciapaglia all scored within the first six minutes, with Cacciapaglia recording assists on the Kemish and McCarty goals as the Cougars pushed their advantage to 16-7.
  • After another save from Battle, the Fighting Scots cut into the deficit, but the scarlet and white closed out the game with goals from McCarty, Kemish, and Lucas as Clark prevailed 19-8.

  • Clark attempted 47 shots, forced 28 turnovers, scooped up 22 ground balls, won 21 draw controls, and converted 16 clears.
  • Lucas led the team with five goals and dished out five assists.
