Men's Lacrosse Tops Emmanuel 21-12 on Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (2-0) saw its offense explode for the second straight game as the Cougars came away with a 21-12 victory over Emmanuel (0-1) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Attilio LaVecchia put Clark on the board with a man-up goal off a feed from fellow graduate student Matthew Minkwitz and junior Thomas Michaud netted the team's second goal with 9:00 to go in the first to extend the edge to 2-0.
  • Graduate student Casey McCullough then tallied a save before the Saints scored a pair of goals to tie the contest, but Clark ended the quarter with three unanswered goals as senior Matt Wells, graduate student Colin Howard, and Michaud each scored to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
  • To open the second quarter, graduate student Patrick Liddy and Minkwitz each scored, with assists from Minkwitz and junior Brayden Grainger as Clark extended the edge to 7-2.
  • After two unanswered goals from Emmanuel, Howard netted his second goal of the game to push the lead to 8-4 with 2:43 left in the first half.
  • The Cougars entered the third quarter up 8-6 before Minkwitz and first-year Spencer Arzanipour each scored and after the Saints pulled within one, Clark rattled off five straight goals as Minkwitz scored twice and Liddy, first-year Riley Joyce, and Michaud all scored to take a 15-9 lead into the fourth.
  • Emmanuel cut the deficit to five early in the fourth before the scarlet and white rattled off six straight goals as LaVecchia, Howard, Minkwitz, sophomore John Nolan, and Michaud all scored before graduate student Brennan Hare stopped a shot in net late in the fourth as Clark prevailed 21-12.

  • Minkwitz led the team with six goals and dished out four assists.
