WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (11-9, 3-3 NEWMAC) welcomed WPI (8-12, 1-5 NEWMAC) to the Kneller in a crosstown battle and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 67-53 victory over the Engineers on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
- WPI jumped out to an early 8-4 lead sparked by five points from Megan Stone and the two buckets from Clark came from sophomore Olivia Shipley and graduate student Alaina Schatzabel.
- Three free throws towards the end of the quarter pulled Clark within three before Coleman ended the quarter on a 7-3 run by herself to give the scarlet and white a 16-15 edge.
- The Cougars held WPI scoreless over the first five minutes of the second quarter and went on an 11-0 run sparked by six points from Schatzabel, three from sophomore Catherine Antwi, and two from Coleman to take a 27-15 advantage.
- After WPI rattled off six straight, Coleman scored four of the final six points to end the half as the Cougars took a 31-23 lead into the locker room.
- Antwi, sophomore Kailey Rios, and Schatzabel combined for Clark's first seven points of the third quarter to help push the lead to 10 before layups from Coleman and Antwi gave the Cougars a 42-30 edge with 4:19 to play in the third.
- Schatzabel and Antwi added four points down the stretch in the third and Clark's defense held WPI to just four points in that time as they took a 47-34 lead into the fourth.
- Antwi and Rios each connected on triples to open the fourth to help extend the lead to 16 before a Schatzabel layup off a feed from Shipley with 4:23 remaining gave the Cougars a 57-40 advantage.
- Rios, Schatzabel, Antwi, junior Ashley Leighton, and sophomore Emma Drefs all scored down the stretch as the Engineers got as close as 15 from the lead to pull away from WPI with a 67-53 final.

- Clark grabbed 39 rebounds, dished out 16 assists, made 15 free throws, and forced 18 turnovers.
- Schatzabel led the way with 19 points on 8-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
- Coleman also added 19 points, with six made shots and seven free throws.
- Antwi reached double-figures with 15 points, pulled down six rebounds, and tallied three steals.
