WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (4-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosted MIT (3-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) in their conference opener and dropped the match 20-8 on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Casey McCullough stopped a pair of shots early in the first quarter before MIT got on the board when Zach Bleil found the back of the net.
- Junior Thomas Michaud tied the game with 7:41 remaining in the first off a feed from senior Matt Wells before the Engineers netted two unanswered goals to end the quarter.
- First-year Spencer Arzanipour won the opening faceoff in the second quarter and found graduate student Matthew Minkwitz for a goal to cut the deficit to one at 3-2.
- Minkwitz, junior Lucas Cuda, graduate student Patrick Liddy, and Michaud each fired shots on target that were saved in the second and despite three McCullough saves, the Cougars trailed 8-2 at the half.
- Wells found the back of the cage early in the third off a feed from Liddy before Liddy tallied his second assist of the game with 11:33 remaining in the period when Minkwitz scored to make it a 10-4 contest.
- The Engineers rattled off seven unanswered goals before graduate student Colin Howard, sophomore Eric Aswad, and Wells opened the fourth with three straight goals.
- Aswad netted Clark's final goal of the game off a feed from Howard as the Cougars fell 20-8.
