Minkwitz Nets Career-High Nine Goals in 20-7 Victory Over NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (5-2) traveled to New England College (3-3) for a non-conference contest and came away with a convincing 20-7 victory sparked by a career-high nine goals from graduate student Matthew Minkwitz on Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Huy Doan won the opening faceoff before Minkwitz found a cutting junior Brett Newman and Newman found the back of the cage to give Clark an early 1-0 lead.
  • After a goal from NEC, first-year Spencer Arzanipour won the faceoff and passed to Minkwitz, who beat the goalie as the Cougars pushed the lead to 2-1.
  • Henri Pfeifle tied the game for the Pilgrims before Clark rattled off four unanswered goals as Minkwitz netted three and senior Matt Wells scored the other while graduate student Casey McCullough stopped three shots.
  • Minkwitz, junior Thomas Michaud, and Arzanipour each scored over the final 6:15 of the first as the Cougars led 9-3.
  • Minkwitz found the back of the net again early in the second quarter and added two more goals in the period, with the last goal coming off a feed from sophomore Tate Gorman as Clark took a 12-4 lead into the half.
  • Senior Alex D'Entrone scored early in the third and after a NEC goal, senior Ryan Kerr, Minkwitz, and D'Entrone netted the final three goals of the period as the scarlet and white led 16-5 entering the fourth.
  • Wells, sophomore Eric Aswad, Gordman, and sophomore John Nolan all scored for the Cougars as they prevailed 20-7.
