Women's Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Opener to Wheaton

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened conference play on Saturday afternoon against Wheaton (3-3, 1-0 NEWMAC) and despite leading after the first quarter, dropped the contest 13-5 to the Lyons from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Annie Battle stopped a pair of shots early in the contest before senior Aubrey Conners found the back of the cage to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge.
  • After Georgia Qua scored for Wheaton, senior Erin Lucas found a cutting Conners and Conners netted a goal as the Cougars took a 2-1 lead.
  • Lucas and Conners each fired shots on goal that were saved in the second, while senior Saorla Scully caused a turnover, and Battle tallied three saves, but the Lyons took a 7-2 edge into the half.
  • Sophomore Sarah Forrester and first-year Sydney McMonagle opened the third with a pair of goals before a goal from first-year Paige Kemish off a feed from senior Meghan Fogarty made it an 8-5 contest.
  • McMonagle and Lucas created chances in the fourth, but the Lyons netted the final five goals of the game to record a 13-5 victory.

  • Clark attempted 27 shots, forced 17 turnovers, scooped up 11 ground balls, won four draw controls, and converted 17 clears.
  • Battle recorded eight saves in net for the scarlet and white.
  • Conners led the team with two goals and attempted four shots on target.
  • Forrester, Kemish, and McMonagle all scored for the Cougars.
  • Lucas and Fogarty also added assists.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the field on Wednesday night when they travel to Southern Maine for a contest beginning at 5:00 p.m.
