Women's Lacrosse Falls to Southern Maine

GORHAM, Me. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (2-5) opened their week with a road contest at Southern Maine (5-2) and fell 21-7 to the Huskies on Wednesday night from Hannaford Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Erin Lucas won the opening draw control and senior Annie Battle stopped a pair of shots early in the contest before first-year Sydney McMonagle fired a free position shot on goal that was stopped.
  • Senior Meghan Fogarty and senior Aubrey Conners each put shots just wide of the goal before junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia found the back of the cage as the Cougars trailed 8-1.
  • Fogarty helped Clark score two unanswered at the end of the first by scoring a goal with 0:18 remaining and added her second goal of the contest to make it 8-3 game early in the second quarter.
  • The Huskies ended the half with seven unanswered despite shots on goal from Lucas, Cacciapaglia, and graduate student Greer McCarty.
  • Battle recorded two saves, graduate student Lucy Szpila and McMonagle each caused turnovers, and both Conners and Lucas fired shots on target that were saved in the third quarter.
  • In the fourth, Lucas netted a pair of goals, Cacciapaglia tallied a goal and an assist, and McMonagle scored as the Cougars fell 21-7.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark attempted 20 shots, forced nine turnovers, scooped up seven ground balls, won 16 draw controls, and converted eight clears.
  • Cacciapaglia and Lucas each scored two goals, dished out an assist, and won six draw controls.
  • Fogarty netted two goals and fired three shots on target.
  • Battle (5) and Steward (2) combined to make seven saves.
  • Graduate student Mary Greene led the team with four ground balls.
  • McMonagle added the team's other goal.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Wellesley for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
