WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (3-5, 1-1 NEWMAC) recorded their first NEWMAC win of the year sparked by a fourth quarter comeback as the Cougars came away with a 14-12 victory against Wellesley (1-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Butler Stadium.
How it Happened
- Senior Annie Battle stopped the first shot of the game and after a Blue goal, senior Erin Lucas found the back of the cage off a feed from senior Aubrey Conners to tie the contest.
- Conners then earned a free position attempt and scored to put the Cougars up 2-1 with 9:36 remaining in the first before Wellesley netted two straight goals.
- Conners netted two goals within a 0:15 second span to give Clark the lead back at 4-3 and despite a pair of Battle saves before the end of the quarter, the Blue added two goals to take a 5-4 edge into the second quarter.
- After Wellesley opened the second quarter with a goal, senior Meghan Fogarty and Conners each scored off assists from first-year Sydney McMonagle and junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia to tie the game at 6-6 with 11:39 to go.
- The Blue added two more goals before another Lucas goal off a feed from first-year Paige Kemish before the end of the half made it an 8-7 contest.
- Cacciapaglia forced a turnover early in the third and both sophomore Sarah Forrester and Conners each put a pair of shots that were saved before the Blue netted a pair of goals to push their lead to 10-7.
- Lucas and Conners closed out the third with two unanswered goals and Battle stopped a pair of shots as the Cougars trailed 10-9 entering the fourth.
- The scarlet and white's offense came to life in the fourth quarter with four unanswered goals as graduate student Greer McCarty, Fogarty, Lucas, and Forrester all scored to give Clark a 13-10 lead.
- After Wellesley added two goals, McMonagle scored the insurance goal off a feed from Fogarty as the Cougars prevailed 14-12.
