NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (6-4, 0-3 NEWMAC) ended their week against Coast Guard (7-2, 2-1 NEWMAC) and battled for four quarters before dropping the contest 12-5 to the Bears on Saturday afternoon from Cadet Memorial Field.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Casey McCullough recorded a save and fellow graduate student Colin Howard put a shot on goal that was saved before Coast Guard netted a pair of goals.
- After earning a man-up opportunity, senior Alex D'Entrone found the back of the goal off a feed from graduate student Matthew Minkwitz to cut the deficit to one.
- Minkwitz and first-year Charlie Spottiswoode also created chance that hit the post in the first before the Bears extended their edge to 3-1 early in the second.
- Clark netted two unanswered goals as graduate student Patrick Liddy scored a man-up goal off a feed from first-year Michael Berman Annunziata and sophomore Eric Aswad found the back of the goal off a pass from sophomore Tate Gorman to tie the game at 3-3.
- The Bears responded with three unanswered goals despite three saves from McCullough and shots from Minwitz and Aswad that were save as Clark trailed 6-3 at the break.
- Minkwitz cut the deficit to two at 6-4 with a goal less than three minutes into the third and D'Entrone nearly made it a one goal game, but saw his shot saved.
- The Bears closed out the third quarter with three unanswered goals and added two more to open up the fourth to extend their edge to 11-4.
- Sophomore John Nolan ended the run with a goal off a caused turnover by graduate student Jacob Wharton before the Cougars fell 12-5.
