Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Texas Trip With 12-11 Win Over Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Tex. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (4-1) closed out their week in Texas with a 12-11 victory over Southwestern (3-1) sparked by a strong first half on Saturday afternoon from Varsity Field.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Attilio LaVecchia and senior Matt Wells helped Clark take an early 2-0 lead, with the sophomore Eric Aswad dishing out an assist on the Wells goal.
  • Fellow graduate student Casey McCullough recorded four saves throughout the first and before the end of the period, graduate student Matthew Minkwitz found the back of the cage as the Cougars took a 4-0 edge into the second.
  • McCullough stopped two more shots to open the second before first-year Michael Berman Annunziata and graduate student Colin Howard both scored before the end of the half to take a 6-0 into the half.
  • Southwestern opened the third with three goals before junior Brett Newman ended the run with a goal off a feed from graduate student Jacob Wharton to push the lead to 7-3.
  • After a Pirate goal, the Cougars added four unanswered goals as Howard, junior Thomas Michaud, and Aswad netted a pair of goals as Clark led 11-7 entering the fourth.
  • Wells extended the lead to 12-7 early in the fourth off a feed from LaVecchia and McCullough stopped four shots down the stretch as Clark prevailed.
