WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's tennis team (4-9, 2-2 NEWMAC) competed in their second home conference match of the spring and came away with a convincing 6-1 victory over Coast Guard (2-10, 1-3 NEWMAC) on Thursday afternoon from the Corash Tennis Courts.
How it Happened
Doubles: Clark 2, Coast Guard 1
- In number three doubles, junior Graham Russo and first-year Ziad Tabbara cruised to a 6-1 victory against Carlander and Reice.
- Graduate student Tanner Honnef and senior Ryan Hovey sealed the doubles point for Clark in number two play with a 6-2 win over Gregoire and Eslinger.
- Sophomore Aris Kirkorian and junior Edward Shepherd-Johnson played a back-and-forth match in number one doubles, but were bested 6-7 (4-7) by Bonetto and Love.
Singles: Clark 5, Coast Guard 1
- Honnef tallied Clark's first singles victory in number six play with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Reice.
- In number three singles, Tabbara recorded a 6-4, 6-0 win against Gregoire.
- Kirkorian sealed the Cougars third singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Love in number two play.
- Hovey battled with Carlander in number five action and after winning the first set 6-1, collected a 7-6 (7-2) victory in the second set.
- In number four singles, Russo went back-and-forth with Eslinger and after dropping the first set 4-6, he took the final two sets 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
- Shepherd-Johnson won three games across two sets, but was bested 3-6, 0-6 by Bonetto in number one play.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the court on Saturday with a road match at Springfield beginning at 1:30 p.m.
