Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Game at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (3-9, 1-5 NEWMAC) traveled to Smith (7-6, 3-3 NEWMAC) for a road NEWMAC contest and were bested 17-9 by the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon from Smith Turf Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Annie Battle stopped a shot early in the game before senior Aubrey Conners fired a shot on target that was saved by Brooke Testa as the Pioneers led 5-0.
  • Senior Meghan Fogarty got Clark on the board with a free position goal in the middle of the first and added her second goal later in the quarter to cut the deficit to 5-2.
  • Battle added three saves down the stretch of the first and senior Aubrey Conners found the back of the cage with 7:31 remaining in the second to make it a 9-3 contest.
  • Conners netted her second goal of the afternoon before the half and junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia opened the third with a goal off a won draw control by senior Erin Lucas.
  • First-year Sydney McMonagle and Conners netted the games next two goals off free position shots to cut the deficit to six at 13-7 as Battle tallied two more saves.
  • After a Pioneer goal, sophomore Sarah Forrester netted the next two goals of the quarter as the Cougars got as close as five at 14-9.
  • Battle recorded three saves in the fourth and both Lucas and Fogarty put shots on goal that were stopped as the Cougars fell 17-9.

  • Clark attempted 20 shots, forced nine turnovers, won 15 draw controls, and converted 14 clears.
  • Conners netted a hat trick and fired six shots on target.
  • Battle tallied a career-high 12 saves.
  • Forrester and Fogarty each scored two goals.
  • Cacciapaglia and McMonagle also scored.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday night when they welcome Emerson to Granger for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
