WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (4-9, 2-5 NEWMAC) played a back-and-forth game against Emerson (5-7, 1-6 NEWMAC) and battled back in the fourth to top the Lions 12-11 on Wednesday night from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Emerson jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before senior Aubrey Conners cut the deficit in half with a shot that beat Ellie Spotts off a won draw control from junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia.
- Sophomore Sarah Forrester and senior Meghan Fogarty netted the Cougars next two goals off feeds from senior Erin Lucas and Conners to take a 3-2 late in the first.
- Cacciapaglia, Lucas, and graduate student Lucy Szpila caused turnovers before the end of the first quarter before senior Saorla Scully caused a turnover early in the second.
- The Lions netted the next four goals of the game to take a 6-3 lead despite a save from senior Annie Battle before Forrester ended the run with 2:52 to go in the second quarter.
- Lucas and junior Alexandra Cacciapaglia both caused turnovers before the half as the Lions took a 6-4 edge into the half.
- Forrester cut into the deficit with a goal off a feed from Elizabeth Cacciapaglia early in the third before Emerson extended their lead to 7-5 with a goal less than a minute later.
- Forrester and Fogarty both found the back of the cage within a 0:20 second span to tie the game at 7-7 with Lucas picking up an assist on the Fogarty goal.
- Emerson regained the lead with a pair of goals in the middle of the third before Lucas netted a free position goal and Battle stopped a pair of shots as Clark trailed 9-8 entering the fourth.
- Clark regained the lead early in the fourth when Fogarty scored off a feed from Lucas and Fogarty gave the Cougars the edge with 8:36 to play at 10-9.
- After Emerson tied the game at 10-10, Conners and Forrester both scored, with the assist on the Forrester goal going to Fogarty as the Cougars pushed ahead 12-10 with 2:37 remaining.
- Emerson cut the deficit to one with 1:14 to go, but Lucas won the draw control to help run out the clock as the Cougars came away with a 12-11 victory.
