Field Hockey Opens 2025 With 5-0 Victory Against Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (1-0) opened the 2025 season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Worcester State (0-1) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field sparked by four goals in the third quarter.

How it Happened
  • Senior Alison Kopec nearly gave Clark the lead within the first minute of play with a shot that was stopped by Lizzy MacDonald before fellow senior Loren Root recorded a pair of saves.
  • In the sixth minute, senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia sent in a ball in the circle that found the stick of fellow senior Morgan Brown who found the back of the cage to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • Root stopped a shot off a penalty corner and Cacciapaglia fired a shot on goal that was saved as the scarlet and white held a 1-0 edge entering the second.
  • In the second quarter, first-year Katelyn Towne and Kopec each attempted shots that were stopped as the Cougars led 1-0 at the break.
  • Brown netted her second goal of the game early in the third off a feed from first-year Sedona Lee in the right corner of the cage to take a 2-0 edge.
  • Just over a minute later, Kopec added to the lead with a goal before the scarlet and white capitalized on a corner as Beauchain dished it to Cacciapaglia, who fired a shot and that was deflected into the back of the cage by Beauchain to make it a 4-0 contest.
  • The Cougars earned a penalty stroke late in the third and Beauchain stepped into the circle and buried the shot to take a 5-0 lead into the fourth.
  • Root stopped seven shots in the fourth and first-year Olivia Bass fired a shot on target that was stopped as the scarlet and white prevailed 5-0.

  • Clark recorded 24 shot attempts (12 on target) and earned six penalty corners.
  • Brown netted a pair of goals, her first of the season and now has four career goals.
  • Beauchain also scored two goals, which went down as her first this year and sixth/seventh as a Cougar.

  • Cacciapaglia tallied a pair of assists and has 12 career dimes.
  • Lee picked up her first career assist.
  • Root tallied her first shutout of the season and stopped 12 shots.
