Field Hockey Registers 2-0 Road Win Over NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Clark University field hockey team (2-0) traveled to NEC (1-1) on Wednesday night and registered their second shutout win of the year with a 2-0 victory over the Pilgrims from Don Melander Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Loren Root stopped a shot in the second minute of play and fellow senior Alison Kopec nearly got Clark on the board in the fourth minute with a shot that was saved by Makenzie Anderson.
  • Off a penalty corner sent in by senior Jenna Beauchain in the fourth minute, first-year Carys Mitchell had a shot saved off Anderson's pad that found first-year Olivia Bass and she passed the ball to fellow first-year Sedona Lee for the goal to put Clark up 1-0.
  • Beauchain and senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia both applied more pressure on the Pilgrim backline with shots that were saved and Root recorded a pair of saves before the quarter as the Cougars led 1-0.
  • The Cougars fended off 10 penalty corners in the second quarter, with two saves coming from Root and before the half Kopec and Lee each had shots saved as Clark still held a one goal lead.
  • After another Root save, first-year Katelyn Towne recorded a defensive save less than a minute into the third quarter.
  • Clark extended their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute with a penalty stroke goal by Beauchain, her second stroke goal of the year.
  • In the fourth, Clark fought off three cards and allowed no goals as Root stopped two shots and senior Morgan Brown as well as Kopec fired shots on target that were saved as the Cougars prevailed 2-0.

  • Clark recorded 14 shot attempts (nine on target), earned five penalty corners, and held off 22 penalty corners.
  • Lee's goal was her first wearing the scarlet and white.
  • Bass tallied her first collegiate point with the assist.
  • Beauchain's goal was her third goal of the year and eighth as a Cougar.
  • Root tallied eight saves and her second shutout of the season.

The Cougars will continue their three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Fitchburg State for a contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
