WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (5-0) extended their winning streak to five games as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth (1-5) sparked by a hat trick from senior
Alison Kopec on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
The Cougars defensive effort marked their fourth shutout in five games.
How it Happened
- Kopec recorded the first goal of the contest for the scarlet and white as she brought the ball in through the Corsair defense and beat Shane Cueman less than five minutes into the contest.
- Kopec and senior Morgan Brown then created chances later in the first that were stopped, with Brown's going down as a defensive save by Sophia Bouffard as the scarlet and white took a 1-0 lead into the second.
- Within a 0:30 second span in the middle of the second quarter, both Kopec and first-year Sedona Lee found the back of the cage to extend their lead to 3-0.
- Brown, senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, first-year Carys Mitchell, and Kopec continued to apply offensive pressure with shots that were saved before Kopec netted her third goal of the half with less than a minute left as Clark led 4-0 at the break.
- Clark started the second half the same way as the first as Brown, first-year Olivia Bass, Lee, and first-year Katelyn Towne all fired shots on target that were stopped and junior Rachel Reiter tallied a save in the middle of the quarter off a Brooke Lydon shot.
- Cacciapaglia netted the Cougars fifth goal of the afternoon with less than two minutes to play in the third as Clark took a 5-0 lead into the fourth.
- In the fourth, Lee and Bass each netted goals, with the Bass goal coming off a feed from Kopec as the Cougars recorded a convincing 7-0 victory.
