Men's Soccer Opens NEWMAC Play With 0-0 Draw Against Coast Guard

WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark men's soccer (3-1-1, 0-0-1 NEWMAC) opened conference play with a home match against Coast Guard (3-2-2, 0-0-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday and battled to a 0-0 draw with the Bears from Granger Field.

The Cougars registered their fourth shutout of the season.

How it Happened
  • Senior Ben Siegel created Clark's first chance of the match in the ninth minute that went just wide of the goal and junior Carter Benoff serviced in a corner that was fended off by the Bears.
  • Senior Diego Marin tallied the Cougars first save of the match in the 26th minute and first-year Shahmeer Waseem recorded a pair of shots that went wide of the net.
  • Before the end of the half, Siegel nearly gave Clark the lead with a shot that was saved by Jack Putnam as the teams entered the break tied at 0-0.
  • Marin opened the second half with a pair of saves off shots from Cole Miller and Jake Fish before first-year Brendan Stevenson recorded a header that went wide of the goal off a corner serviced in from senior Mauro Perez Colon in the 54th minute.
  • Neither team registered another shot on target until the 82nd minute when Andres Villasana fired a shot that was stopped by Marin and the senior netminder added another save in the 83rd.
  • Stevenson recorded the final shot on goal of the match in the 88th minute with a header that was stopped as the Cougars and Bears played to a 0-0 draw.
