Field Hockey Rolls Past Hartford, 7-0, for Sixth Shutout of Season

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (7-1, 0-1 NEWMAC) had their first-ever meeting with the University of Hartford (2-4, 0-2 CNE), taking down the Hawks 7-0 for the Cougars' third home win of the season and seventh overall victory.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars controlled possession early, earning seven penalty corners in the first 11 minutes. On the final corner, senior Jenna Beauchain found senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia for the first goal of the game, as Cacciapaglia rifled a shot into the back of the cage.

  • The lead was extended less than a minute later when junior Cassidy Cloutier weaved her way through multiple defenders before centering a pass to freshman Sedona Lee for the second goal of the game.

  • Freshman Olivia Bass joined the party in the second quarter with a rebound score to make it 3-0 Clark, a score that held at the halftime whistle.

  • Clark generated 10 penalty corners in the third period, leading to six shots on goal, but could not find the back of the cage during the frame.

  • The floodgates opened in the final quarter, with Beauchain scoring at the near post off an assist from senior Alison Kopec to make it 4-0.

  • Kopec quickly added another assist, evading multiple defenders before finding Lee for the fifth Cougar goal of the game.

  • Bass made it 6-0 with another well-positioned score off a high-bouncing ball sent in from beyond the shooting circle.

  • Cacciapaglia put the finishing touches on the win, smashing the back of the cage for a late goal off the assist from Lee. This would ultimately be the final tally, as Clark cruised to a 7-0 victory.
