Field Hockey Drops Road Match at MIT on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (7-2, 0-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Cambridge for their pride game against MIT (6-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) and despite scoring a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, were bested 5-2 by the Engineers on Saturday afternoon from Jack Barry Field.

How it Happened
  • After MIT's Meredith Wu scored the first goal of the afternoon in the fourth minute off a feed from Bailey McIntyre before junior Rachel Reiter tallied her first save of the game off a shot from Jane Thomas.
  • McIntyre pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the ninth minute and Clark earned their first penalty corner of the contest as senior Jenna Beauchain sent the ball into fellow senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, who's shot was blocked in the 11th minute.
  • Reiter opened the second quarter with three saves before the Engineers netted two more goals as McIntyre and Thomas both scored to extend their edge to 4-0.
  • Before the end of the half, senior Alison Kopec, first-year Sedona Lee, and first-year Katelyn Towne each created chances that were stopped by Maeve Zimmer.
  • Reiter tallied four saves over the first six minutes of the third quarter before Lee nearly got Clark on the board in the 43rd minute with a shot that was stopped.
  • Cacciapaglia netted Clark's first goal of the contest as Beauchain passed a ball into Cacciapaglia and the senior found the back of the cage with 12:00 remaining.
  • After another Thomas goal, first-year Olivia Bass scored off a feed from Cacciapaglia as the scarlet and white fell 5-2.

  • Clark recorded 12 shots (seven on target) and earned six penalty corners.
  • Cacciapaglia registered her seventh goal of the season and fourth assist of the year, she now has nine career goals and 14 assists.
  • Beauchain's assist was her second of the year and sixth of her career.
