Brown Nets Hat Trick as Field Hockey Tops Regis 5-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (8-2) closed out the month of September with a home contest against Regis (3-6) and pulled away late as the Cougars registered a 5-1 victory over the Pride on Monday night from Granger Field.  

How it Happened
  • First-year Katelyn Towne created a chance in the second minute that was stopped by Allayna Martone before senior Alison Kopec sent in a ball to senior Morgan Brown, with Brown finding the back of the cage to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
  • Senior Cassidy Cloutier, Brown, and senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia all fired shots that were saved by Martone as Clark continued to apply constant offensive pressure as the team led 1-0.
  • Cacciapaglia and first-year Olivia Bass created chances in the middle of the second that were stopped before junior Rachel Reiter registered her first save of the match as the scarlet and white took a 1-0 advantage into the half.
  • Reiter came up clutch to begin the third quarter as she stopped seven saves over the first seven minutes of action, including a penalty stroke save before Regis got on the board as Izzy Cochrane scored off a feed from Anna Miele-DeFelice to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Brown netted her second goal of the night in the 42nd minute off a pass into the center of the circle from first-year Sedona Lee as the scarlet and white took a 2-1 lead into the fourth.
  • Cloutier and Brown nearly pushed the lead to two with a pair of shots that were saved before Kopec was able to fire from within the circle and find the back of the cage to extend the advantage to 3-1.
  • Bass and Brown scored the final two goals of the game, with the Brown goal being her third of the evening and was assisted by Cloutier as the Cougars prevailed 5-1.

  • Clark recorded 43 shots (20 on target) and earned 10 penalty corners.
  • Brown's three goals now put her at six on the season, eight career goals.
  • Kopec tallied her sixth assist of the year and 17th as a Cougar, while scoring her sixth goal of the season, ninth of her career.
  • Lee registered her third assist for the scarlet and white.
  • Bass recorded her seventh goal of the year and has scored in three straight contests.
  • Cloutier's assist was her second of the season.
  • Reiter stopped eight shots in the contest.
What's Next
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Smith to Granger for a conference contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
