WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (3-2-3, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) hosted Wheaton (5-3-0, 1-1-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field and despite outshooting the Lyons 20-9, dropped the contest 1-0 off a goal from Ali Roche.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Selene Hammad recorded the first shot attempt of the afternoon in the fifth minute which was stopped by Patricia Bandrup before fellow sophomore Solimar Rivera created another chance that was saved by Bandrup.
- In the 18th minute, senior Emma Shaughnessy moved to her right and fired a shot on target that again was stopped by Bandrup, and sophomore Georgia Louis created a chance just outside the box that was saved by Bandrup as the Cougars' offense continued to apply constant pressure.
- Clark's defense allowed no shots on target in the first half as the scarlet and white and Lyons entered the half tied 0-0.
- Junior Ava Lepro entered the game in the second half in net and stopped a pair of shots over the first five minutes of play before Louis nearly gave Clark the lead with a right-footed boot that was stopped by Bandrup in the 53rd minute.
- The Lyons took a 1-0 edge in the 60th minute as Maya Thomas dribbled down the right side of the pitch and sent in a pass that found the foot of Roche, with Roche finding the back left side of the net.
- Rivera fired her second shot on target of the afternoon in the 61st minute, which was saved before senior Cassidy Hubbard created Clark's best chance off a corner serviced in by Hammad as Hubbard nearly found the back of the goal, but Kaydie O'Neil tallied a defensive save on the play.
- In the 87th minute, Louis put Clark's final shot on goal of the afternoon that was stopped by Bandrup as the Cougars fell 1-0.
