WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-10, 0-3 NEWMAC) hosted Coast Guard (9-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night in a conference matchup. Despite strong stretches from the Cougars, the Bears used timely scoring runs in each frame to pull away and earn a straight-set victory.

Coast Guard pulled away in the opening set with a pair of five-point runs, building a 19-7 lead.

Back-to-back kills from sophomore Isabella Alcott and graduate student Isabella Smith provided a spark for the Cougars, but the Bears responded with another five-point surge to close out set one, 25-10.

Clark opened the second set strong, with two early kills from junior Harper Chinn sparking a 3-1 lead.

The frame stayed close until another five-point surge by the Coast Guard created a 17-11 cushion.

The Cougars battled back to keep it tight, but the Bears held on to secure the set, 25-21.

The third set was another back-and-forth battle, with a block from junior Katelyn Williams and sophomore Abigail Venis evening the score at 9-9.

Clark clawed back once more off a kill by Harper Chinn and a block from Isabella Smith and freshman Ashlyn Moquin to cut the deficit to 23-21.

The comeback effort fell just short, as the Bears closed the frame with back-to-back kills to seal the 25-21 win and the straight-sets victory.
