CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Clark University men's basketball (11-7, 6-3 NEWMAC) started the second half of its conference schedule with a trip to MIT (5-13, 1-8 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon. Clark pulled away in the first half and never looked back on its way to earning its fourth conference win in the last five games.
How it Happened

Junior Malik Matanmi powered the offense to start the game, scoring six of the first ten points for the Cougars. First-year Aliaun Iscandari then scored four straight to put Clark up 14-10 with 14:06 to go in the half.

Iscandari continued his strong start, scoring 12 points for Clark during a 13-3 run that put the Cougars up 28-18 with eight minutes to go in the first half.

Senior Reid Neumann would then score six straight, with a triple from behind the arc and three makes from the charity stripe.

The Cougars would keep the Engineers at a distance, with sophomore Kyle Squires hitting a pair of triples, before a three by Iscandari gave him 21 points at the half.

Two late free throws by junior Quentin Pridgen would give Clark a 48-34 lead going into the halftime break.

Iscandari would score the first seven points of the second half for the Cougars, the last of which made it a 55-41 game with 15:42 to play.

Two more layups by Iscandari, along with lay-ins by Matanmi and first-year David Fridia, would extend the lead to 22 over the next few minutes.

The next eight minutes would be taken over by Squires, who scored 16 points in that span, including three triples, to make it a 25-point game with only 3:44 remaining.

Another layup by Matanmi and a late three by Iscandari would put the finishing touches on the 90-67 win for Clark.

The Cougars hit 31 of 55 shots (56.4%), including finishing 10 of 24 from behind the arc (41.7%). They grabbed 31 rebounds, assisted on 15 shots, and forced 17 turnovers, including 10 steals.

Iscandari broke his career high for points again with a 37-point performance on 12-16 shooting, adding six rebounds and two steals. His 17.4 points per game rank third in the NEWMAC.

Squires fired in 22 points, shooting an efficient 5-7 from downtown.

Matanmi also set a career high with 12 points in his start, adding two blocks and a steal defensively.

Pridgen once again did a bit of everything, finishing with five points, eight rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals. This marked his second game this season with 10 assists, and he also leads the NEWMAC with 5.4 assists per game.
