Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Six Reach Double Digits as Men’s Basketball Push Past No. 23 WPI, 86-76

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's basketball (12-7, 7-3 NEWMAC) was tested on the road by nationally ranked No. 23 WPI (15-4, 8-2 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night. The Cougars aced the test, using a strong start to the second half to pull away and win 86-76 behind six players scoring in double digits.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars raced out to a 12-4 lead over the first eight minutes of the game thanks to threes from sophomore Kyle Squires and senior Reid Neumann.

  • Despite another three from Neumann and a pair of dunks from first-year Elijah Small, the Engineers battled back to retake the lead, 22-21, with 5:59 to go in the half.

  • Not to be deterred, the Cougars answered, with junior Quentin Pridgen scoring seven straight points to cut the deficit to a single point.

  • The lead would change sides for the fifth time in the half as Small continued his stellar start with an and-one layup with 11 seconds remaining to give the Scarlet and White a 37-35 halftime lead.

  • The momentum continued with an 11-0 run to start the second half for Clark, led by a three from first-year Aliaun Iscandari and two layups inside from junior Malik Matanmi.

  • After a brief WPI run cut the deficit to single digits, the Cougars reextended their lead, reaching as high as 16 behind a three-pointer from Squires, making it 61-45 with 11:46 remaining.

  • Clark would hold onto its lead, fending off the Engineers with a timely dunk from Small and a three-pointer from Iscandari to put the Cougars up 74-61 with six minutes to play.

  • The Engineers continued to battle, cutting the lead to just four points with 50 seconds remaining. However, a layup by Small and free throws from Iscandari and Pridgen iced the game for Clark, with the final buzzer sounding with an 86-76 score.
