Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Wentworth

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-1) hosted Wentworth (2-1) in their season opener and netted six goals in the fourth, but fell 16-10 to the Leopards on Wednesday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Wentworth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before senior Brett Newman caused a pair of turnovers and recorded Clark's first shot attempt of the year that was blocked and after two more Leopard goals, first-year goalie Luca Palleschi tallied his first career save.
  • Junior John Golioto and sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata each created chances in the middle of the quarter that were stopped by A.J. Smith and before the end of the first, junior Eric Aswad fired a shot on goal that was saved as the Leopards took a 5-0 edge into the second quarter.
  • Palleschi opened the second quarter with a pair of saves and after a pair of Wentworth goals, Berman Annunziata registered Clark's first goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Thomas Sheehan with 9:42 to go.
  • Berman Annunziata tallied his second goal of the contest with 6:11 to go in the second and nearly added his third before the half, but Wentworth responded with four unanswered goals as they took a 12-2 lead into the locker room.
  • Junior Jason Shackley netted Clark's third goal of the contest off a feed from Berman Annunziata and junior goalie Josh Reno tallied five saves in the quarter.
  • With 2:11 to go in the third, senior Thomas Michaud found the back of the cage for his first goal of the season and the Leopards took a 15-4 lead into the fourth.
  • After Wentworth added a goal early in the fourth, the Cougars rattled off six unanswered goals as sophomore Maxwell Biondi, Berman-Annunziata, Newman (twice), and Shackley (twice) all scored as Clark fell 16-10.
