Men's Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Opener to Springfield

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened conference play on the road against Springfield (4-3, 1-0 NEWMAC) and were bested 16-7 by the Pride on Saturday afternoon from Stagg Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Josh Reno opened the game with three saves before Jake Degnan got the Pride on the board off a feed from Charlie Vath.
  • After another Reno save, senior Lucas Cuda tied the game at 1-1 0:20 seconds after Degnan scored, but the Pride responded with four unanswered to end the first despite five more saves from Reno and caused turnovers from sophomore Maxwell Biondi and Cuda as they trailed 5-1.
  • Tate Anderson found the back of the cage for Springfield to open the second before junior Tate Gorman found sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata with 14:14 to go in the quarter to cut the deficit to 6-2.
  • After Bryan Stensrud scored, Berman Annunziata scored his second goal of the quarter before Reno tallied three more saves and senior Thomas Michaud created a chance that was saved as Clark trailed 10-3 going into the half.
  • Springfield netted the first two goals of the third before Gorman scored off a feed from junior Eric Aswad and sophomore Thomas Sheehan caused a turnover shortly after, but the Pride rattled off two more goals before the end of the quarter.
  • In the fourth, Berman Annunziata scored his third goal of the afternoon off a Gorman assist, Michaud scored, and Gorman found the back of the cage off a dish from Aswad as they fell 16-7.

  • Clark attempted 24 shots, won 18 faceoffs, converted 22 clears, scooped up 31 ground balls, and forced 25 turnovers.
  • Berman Annunziata led the offense with three goals and added a pair of ground balls.
