Women's Lacrosse Fall on the Road at Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Clark University women's lacrosse (2-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Mount Holyoke (5-2, 1-2 NEWMAC) in an early season matchup between two teams searching for their first conference win. The Lyons used a strong third quarter to gain a lead, ultimately winning 9-6.

How it Happened

  • The Lyons got the scoring started with a goal just a minute into the contest. From there, first-year Ella Forsman kept the deficit at one, making four saves over the next ten minutes.

  • The Cougars broke through with 3:59 remaining, as junior Sarah Forrester weaved her way past a pair of defenders to tie the game.

  • A minute later, Clark struck again, this time with senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia securing a rebound and racing around the goal before firing a shot into the net to make it 2-1 with 2:59 to go in the first.

  • Mount Holyoke answered with a minute left, sending the game into the second quarter tied at 2-2.

  • The Lyons struck quickly again in the second, scoring thirty seconds in to retake the lead. They added another just over a minute later to take a 4-2 advantage with 13:20 to play in the half.

  • The offenses quieted over the next 12 minutes, with both defenses holding strong and not allowing a shot on goal during that stretch.

  • Mount Holyoke finally broke the drought with 4:34 remaining, scoring to take a three-goal lead late in the half.

  • The Cougars responded two minutes later, with Cacciapaglia scoring again—this time on a free-position shot. That would be the final goal of the half, with Mount Holyoke leading 5-3 at the break.

  • Clark struck first in the second half, as first-year Maeve McHugh fired a pass from behind the net to Cacciapaglia for her third goal of the game.

  • Mount Holyoke extended its lead over the final ten minutes of the third, taking advantage of a pair of yellow cards to score three times and take an 8-4 lead into the fourth.

  • The Lyons found the back of the net with 8:05 to play, pushing their lead to five, its largest of the game.

  • Clark answered with a pass from graduate student Meghan Fogarty finding sophomore Sydney McMonagle for a woman-up goal with 6:22 remaining.

  • Two minutes later, first-year Jasmine Peters added an unassisted goal. However, the run would stop there, as Mount Holyoke held on for a 9-6 win at home.
