Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Bested by Western Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. – Clark University men's lacrosse (0-3) traveled to Western Connecticut State (3-1) on Wednesday afternoon to start their two game road trip. The Wolves used a strong first quarter to gain an early advantage, using that edge to pull away in a 12-7 victory.

How it Happened

  • The Wolves controlled the game early, scoring the first five goals to build a quick advantage.

  • Clark responded late in the opening quarter, as junior Eric Aswad led a breakaway and sent a cross-crease pass to sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata for the Cougars' first goal.

  • The momentum carried into the second quarter, with senior Thomas Michaud finding junior Jack Insalaco just 20 seconds in to make it 5-2. After another Western Connecticut goal, Clark answered with two in quick succession. Aswad scored off a pass from junior Tate Gorman, and junior John Golioto followed with an unassisted tally to cut the deficit to 6-4 with 7:49 remaining in the half.

  • The Wolves netted the final goal of the second quarter, scoring with 3:42 left to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

  • Western Connecticut opened the third with two more goals before Michaud broke through with an unassisted strike, making it 9-5 with 6:55 to play in the period. After another Wolves goal, Clark beat the buzzer, as Aswad scored with 10 seconds remaining off an assist from senior Brett Newman to send the game into the fourth quarter at 10-6.

  • The Cougars struck first in the final frame, with junior Luke Nufer setting up Berman Annunziata at the 12:07 mark to trim the deficit to three. However, that would be as close as Clark would get, as the Wolves added two late goals to secure a 12-7 victory.
