Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Early Surge Pushes Vassar Past Men’s Lacrosse

Poughkeepsie, NY – Clark University men's lacrosse (0-4) traveled to Vassar College (2-2) to close out its two-game road trip. The Brewers built an early lead behind a strong first quarter and cruised to a 16-7 win, despite the Cougars playing nearly even over the final three quarters.

How it Happened

  • The Brewers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Clark's first faceoff win led to two quick shots on goal at the eight-minute mark from sophomore Maxwell Biondi, marking the Cougars' first chances of the afternoon.

  • Vassar added three more goals over the final nine minutes of the quarter. Junior John Golioto recorded a shot on goal with 6:34 remaining, and Biondi fired another attempt with 1:31 left as Clark entered the second quarter trailing 6-0.

  • Clark continued to generate chances early in the second, including a shot on goal from senior Brett Newman. The Cougars finally broke through with 11:10 remaining, as Thomas Michaud found the back of the net to cut the deficit to five.

  • Following another Vassar goal, Clark responded quickly with Biondi finding junior Tate Gorman for the Cougars' second goal of the half. The Brewers answered again, scoring a minute later to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

  • Vassar added two more goals in the first nine minutes of the third quarter before junior Zach Sinclair scored his first goal of the season with 5:54 remaining to make it 10-3.

  • Clark capitalized on a man-up opportunity shortly after, scoring just forty seconds after the penalty as Newman netted his second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata.

  • The Brewers added a late goal with 2:52 remaining in the third to carry an 11-4 advantage into the final quarter.

  • Newman opened the fourth with a shot on goal, but a save sparked a breakaway that led to a Vassar goal just 50 seconds into the quarter. The Brewers added another with 12:55 remaining to extend the lead to 13-4.

  • Clark responded with three unanswered goals over the next four minutes, beginning with a tally from junior Eric Aswad, assisted by Berman Annunziata.

  • Juniors Zach Sinclair and Luke Nufer then connected for Clark's next goal, with Sinclair finishing a feed from Nufer to cut the deficit to seven. Gorman capped the run with his second goal of the afternoon, this time off a pass from junior Jack Insalaco, making it 13-7.

  • The Brewers answered with a three-goal run of their own over the next five minutes. Both offenses quieted afterward as Vassar secured the 16-7 win at home.
