Women’s Lacrosse Drops Conference Game vs. MIT

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University women's lacrosse (2-7, 0-4 NEWMAC) hosted MIT (8-3, 5-0 NEWMAC) on a rainy Wednesday night. The Engineers took control early and didn't look back on their way to a 23-0 win. 

How it Happened

  • MIT scored four goals in the first five minutes despite ground ball pickups by first-year Ella Forsman and sophomore Sydney McMonagle, with McMonagle also adding a caused turnover early in the game.

  • Senior Alexandra Cacciapaglia and first-year Amelia Corbin added ground balls over the final ten minutes of the first, with Corbin also causing a turnover. The Engineers would add five goals in that span, with a late save by Forsman keeping the score in single digits, 9-0 after the first quarter.

  • After three MIT goals to open the second, Alexandra Cacciapaglia caused a turnover, with Forsman scooping up the ground ball. Senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia added a caused turnover later in the quarter and also picked up the ground ball on the play.

  • Senior Abigail Gallagher recorded two caused turnovers in the span of a minute late in the half, leading to the first shot on goal for Clark as sophomore Paige Kemish fired one on net. The save was made, as MIT closed the half ahead 14-0.

  • Sophomore Grace Steward started the second half in goal, making three saves over the first three minutes of her outing. Later in the third, Elizabeth Cacciapaglia secured a draw control, leading to a shot on goal for junior Sarah Forrester.

  • First-years Karah Henson and Kira Rescsanski each added draw controls, but MIT steadily built on its lead, closing the third with a 19-0 advantage.

  • Forrester controlled two draws in the opening minutes of the fourth, with Henson and senior Victoria Holden adding ground balls.

  • Corbin and Rescsanski each recorded draw controls in the final minutes, with first-year Carys Mitchell adding a ground ball. MIT closed out the game from there, ultimately winning 23-0.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Cougars secured seven draw controls, scooped up 13 ground balls, and forced 17 turnovers. 

  • Forsman made five saves in goal and secured a team-high three ground balls. 

  • Steward made four saves in the third quarter. 

  • Gallagher caused a team-high two turnovers. 

  • Rescsanski and Forrester each had two draw controls in the effort.
