Women's Lacrosse Battles With Wellesley, But Falls on Friday Night

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (2-8, 0-5 NEWMAC) battled with Wellesley (4-7, 2-4 NEWMAC) for four quarters, but ultimately fell 14-10 to the Blue on Friday night from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Sarah Forrester gave Clark an early lead with a goal less than a minute into the game before Wellesley netted two goals within a 0:24 second span to take a 2-1 edge.
  • Sophomore Sydney McMonagle netted a man-up goal with 10:23 to go in the first to tie the game and after another Wellesley goal, senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia scored a man-up goal in what was now a 3-3 contest.
  • Wellesley's Charlotte Petersen-Kopman and first-year Jasmine Peters scored the final two goals of the first as the teams entered the second tied at 4-4.
  • McMonagle, first-year Amelia Corbin, and Forrester all created chances early in the second that were stopped before Milica Simic and Amelia Woodard scored to give the Blue a 6-4 lead.
  • McMonagle and Peters combined for the next two goals of the contest and a save with 4:43 remaining in the second from first-year Ella Forsman helped keep the contest tied at 6-6.
  • Simic scored the final two goals of the half as they took an 8-6 advantage into the half and to open the third, Peters and McMonagle each scored to tie the game at 8-8.
  • After Wellesley scored the next four goals of the contest before McMonagle netted a man-up goal off a feed from E. Cacciapaglia as the Cougars trailed 12-9 entering the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore Paige Kemish created a chance early in the fourth that was saved and Forsman stopped a pair of shots before Peters found the back of the cage to make it a 13-10 game with 5:26 to go.
  • Forsman tallied a free position save, Peters had a shot saved, and first-year Carys Mitchell caused a turnover before the end of the contest as the Cougars fell 14-10.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark attempted 24 shots, forced 18 turnovers, won 12 draw controls, scooped up 15 ground balls, and converted 16 clears.
  • Peters and McMonagle each scored four goals in the contest and each caused a turnover.
  • E. Cacciapaglia tallied a goal, an assist, won six draw controls, and scooped up three ground balls.
  • First-year Kira Rescsanski, Kemish, and Mitchell each caused two turnovers,
  • Forsman registered six saves.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Babson for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
