Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Peters Forces OT, Cacciapaglia Wins It in Thriller at Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – Clark University women's lacrosse (3-9, 1-6 NEWMAC) traveled to Emerson (4-10, 0-7 NEWMAC) in what proved to be a thrilling battle under the lights. The Lions led late, but a goal by first-year Jasmine Peters with 19 seconds left forced overtime. Then senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia capitalized, scoring just over two minutes into overtime to secure the 14-13 win for Clark.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars wasted no time, winning the opening draw and scoring just 21 seconds in on an unassisted strike from Peters.

  • Just over a minute later, the Lions responded with a free-position goal to tie the game.

  • Following some back-and-forth play, Clark pulled back in front with sophomore Sydney McMonagle scoring unassisted to make it 2-1 with 8:05 remaining in the first.

  • Emerson answered again, scoring with 6:30 left to tie the game, then finding the net once more with 2:40 remaining to take their first lead. That lead held for the remainder of the quarter, with the Lions ahead 3-2 after one.

  • Clark struck first in the second quarter, as first-year Kira Rescsanski caused a turnover and senior Alexandra Cacciapaglia scooped up the ground ball, leading to an unassisted goal from junior Sarah Forrester to tie the game at three.

  • After another Emerson goal, the Cougars again evened things up, with Forrester assisting Elizabeth Cacciapaglia for the score. Peters then broke the stretch of different goal scorers, netting her second of the game on a free-position shot to make it 5-4 with 6:24 remaining.

  • Following another tying goal from Emerson, also off a free position, Peters answered again with another free-position strike to put Clark back in front. First-year Ella Forsman made a key save in the final minute, allowing the Cougars to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

  • Emerson controlled the first ten minutes of the third quarter, scoring three times—including once while down a player—to take an 8-6 lead.

  • Clark quickly responded, as Peters completed her hat trick with an unassisted goal before Elizabeth Cacciapaglia scored on a woman-up opportunity to tie the game at eight with three minutes to play.

  • Sophomore Paige Kemish briefly put the Cougars back in front with a free-position goal, but Emerson answered with 34 seconds left to send the game into the fourth quarter tied at 9-9.

  • After two early shots on goal by Clark were saved in the fourth, Forrester broke through off a feed from Peters, scoring while down a player to make it 10-9.

  • Two goals by the Lions flipped the score again, but following a free-position save by Forsman, Elizabeth Cacciapaglia tied the game at 11 with an unassisted goal.

  • Emerson responded with two more goals to take a 13-11 lead with 6:20 to play. Forsman made another pivotal save at the 3:38 mark, and McMonagle capitalized with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to one with 2:46 remaining.

  • A late green card put Clark on the woman-up in the final minute, and with time winding down, Peters delivered, scoring with just 19 seconds remaining to tie the game at 13 and force overtime.

  • Peters also secured the draw control to start overtime. Elizabeth Cacciapaglia was wide on her first two attempts but didn't miss on her third, burying a free-position shot for the golden goal and a 14-13 victory.
