BOSTON, Mass. – Clark University volleyball (2-2) concluded its early-season road stretch with a trip to UMass Boston (4-1) on Wednesday night. The Beacons battled back to take the first set before taking early leads in the final two sets on their way to a 3-0 win.
How it Happened
- The Beacons jumped to an early 7-3 advantage, but five straight points for Clark, including a service ace from senior Harper Chinn to cap the run, put the Cougars in front for the first time at 8-7.
- A five-point run late in the set put UMass Boston back in front. A kill from sophomore Ashlyn Moquin halted the run, but the Beacons went on another five-point run to close the set with a 25-19 win.
- The Beacons carried the momentum into the second set, opening with a 5-0 run before another kill by Moquin scored the first point of the set for Clark.
- Back-to-back kills by senior Katelyn Williams and junior Abigail Venis cut the deficit to six late in the set, but UMass Boston used six straight points to secure the second set, 25-13.
- After a 9-3 run to start the third set, kills by senior Isabella Alcott, Moquin, and Williams made it 9-6.
- The Cougars got within two after a service ace from Alcott and kills from Venis and first-year Cadence Martin. However, six of the next seven points were scored by the Beacons.
- Clark went on a late run, fueled by two kills and a block from senior Winifred Gakidis, but UMass Boston held on to win the final set, 25-18.
Inside the Box Score
- The Cougars recorded 22 kills on 19 assists with 40 digs, also picking up four service aces.
- Alcott and Moquin both recorded six kills, with Alcott adding seven digs.
- Chinn and Williams tied for the team lead with 11 digs. It was the third time this season Chinn has recorded double-digit digs and the second time for Williams.
- Senior Julia Dopazo led the squad with 12 assists in the match after surpassing the 1,000-career-assist mark earlier this season.
