WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (3-3) hosted their first home matches of the year against Thomas (1-4) and Fisher (4-3) and came away with a win over Thomas and a loss to Fisher on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
Clark 3, Thomas 2
- The Cougars fell 25-21 in the first set, took the second 25-11, dropped the third 25-20, won the fourth 25-8, and closed out the match with a 15-9 victory in the fifth set.
- Clark trailed 7-6 early in the first set despite kills from sophomore Ashlyn Moquin, senior Winifred Gakidis, junior Abigail Venis, and first-year Cadence Martin.
- The Cougars were able to tie the set at 14-14 led by a kill from junior Isabella Alcott as well as two previous kills from Moquin.
- Thomas rallied for the next six points before Clark closed the gap back down to three sparked by an Alcott service ace and kills from both senior Katelyn Williams and Alcott, but the Cougars dropped the set 25-21.
- Clark began the second set on a 9-3 run as Gakidis and Moquin combined for a block, senior Julia Dopazo tallied a service ace before Williams and Moquin each recorded kills.
- Alcott and Martin collected four kills over Clark's next five points to extend the lead to 16-5 as part of a 10-0 run, before ultimately taking the set 25-11.
- Thomas jumped out to a 9-4 advantage to open the third set before a pair of blocks from Gakidis helped pull the Cougars back within three at 11-8.
- The Terriers rattled off five of the next six points before Alcott and Venis combined for three kills and a 5-0 run toward the end of the set that included two more kills from Alcott tied the set at 18-18.
- Thomas scored seven of the final nine points of the set to take it 25-20 and to open the fourth set Clark rattled off eight of the first nine points to hold an 8-1 lead.
- Senior Harper Chinn tallied a pair of service aces in the middle of the set and another kill from Martin pushed Clark's advantage to 14-3.
- Venis, Alcott, Gakidis, and Moquin all registered kills over the remainder of the set as Clark recorded a convincing 25-8 victory in the fourth.
- Moquin tallied a pair of service aces over the first five points of the deciding set and Gakidis registered a kill as the Cougars led 4-1 early.
- Thomas fought back to within one at 6-5 before Alcott added two more kills and junior Hannah Harrington registered a service ace to extend the lead to 9-5.
- Over the remainder of the set, Alcott, Moquin, and Gakidis combined for five kills with senior Julia Dopazo picking up assists as the Cougars won 15-9.
- Alcott led the way with 23 kills, 21 digs, and five service aces.
- Williams added eight kills and 20 digs.
- Gakidis tallied seven kills and six blocks.
- Dopazo (28) and Harrington (19) led the Cougars in assists.
- Chinn registered 13 digs and a pair of service aces.
Clark 3, Fisher 0
- Clark fell 25-23 in the first, dropped the second 25-17, and were bested 25-23.
- The Cougars jumped out to a 9-2 advantage in the first set sparked by a pair of service aces from both Dopazo and Gakidis as well as Moquin adding two kills.
- Williams and Alcott added kills before Gakidis and Martin combined for a block in the middle of the set to five Clark a 15-10 lead.
- Fisher closed the set on a 15-8 run despite a service ace from Dopazo and another Moquin kill as the Falcons won the set 25-23.
- The Falcons jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second despite a pair of Williams kills before Fisher added four unanswered points.
- Clark rallied for five unanswered points in the middle of the set to pull within six as Chinn tallied a pair of service aces, but Fisher pulled away to win the set 25-17 as first-year Julia Crockett registered a kill and a pair of blocks to close out the frame.
- The Cougars jumped out to an 8-6 advantage in the second as Dopazo and Alcott registered service aces and both Venis and Gakidis recorded kills.
- After a Moquin kill tied the set at 10-10, the Falcons scored three unanswered and held the lead until Clark rallied to score four straight as Alcott registered three straight service aces to give the Cougars a 20-18 lead.
- The Falcons rallied to score seven of the next 10 points as they won the set 25-23.
- Williams, Moquin, and Alcott each registered five kills.
- Dopazo (11) and Harrington (7) led the team in assists.
- Dopazo and Alcott each tallied four service aces.
- Chinn (18) and Williams (11) reached double-digits in digs.

The scarlet and white will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Framingham State for a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
