Field Hockey Edged at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University field hockey (2-1) made a short drive across the city on Saturday morning to take on Worcester State (1-2). The Lancers added goals in the first, second, and fourth quarters on their way to a 3-1 win on their home field.

How it Happened

  • The Lancers fired the first shot of the match just two and a half minutes in, but senior Rachel Reiter made the save to keep the game scoreless early.
  • Reiter added two saves in the final minutes of the quarter, but on the fourth shot on goal of the game, Calleigh Currier broke through to make it 1-0 Worcester State.
  • At the halfway point of the second, the Lancers struck again, this time with Kaylie Ciccone finding the back of the cage to make it a two-goal margin.
  • Sophomore Katelyn Towne fired the first shot for Clark in the final two minutes of the half, but it missed just wide as the half ended 2-0.
  • The Cougars struck early in the second half, with sophomore Sedona Lee navigating inside the circle before finding first-year Nina Pierson for the goal.
  • The Lancers fired a pair of shots on goal in the final five minutes, but a pair of saves from Reiter kept the deficit at a single goal entering the final quarter.
  • Both teams fired a shot on goal in the first five minutes of the fourth, with a shot from Lee saved by the Lancers and Reiter matching with a save of her own at the other end.
  • The Lancers added an insurance goal minutes later, with Emily Curran and Maia Tatum linking up to make it 3-1.
  • First-year Mackenzie Kleefisch put a shot on goal in the final 90 seconds, but it was saved as the final horn sounded with Worcester State in front, 3-1.
