WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (3-2) sophomore
Sedona Lee scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play off a feed from fellow sophomore
Olivia Bass as the Cougars registered a 3-2 victory over Simmons (0-6) on Wednesday night from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Lee serviced in Clark's first penalty corner less than a minute into the game and sophomore Katelyn Towne saw her shot go just wide of the target, while both defenses allowed no shots on target in a defensive led first quarter.
- Towne opened up the scoring for the scarlet and white less than 0:30 into the second off a feed from first-year Nina Pierson as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead.
- Senior Rachel Reiter stopped a pair of shots off shots from Alex Wemple and Katy Paveglio in the middle of the quarter before Lilly Taglieri tied the game at 1-1.
- Reiter tallied one more save before the break and Clark fended off two penalty corners as the teams entered the half tied 1-1.
- Lee sent in a corner to start the third that found Towne, who passed it over to sophomore Camilla Lennon and Lennon found the back of the cage to push Clark's advantage to 2-1.
- Reiter stopped four shots within a three-minute span and over the final five minutes of action in the third, Clark fired 10 shots on goal and earned six penalty corners as Towne and first-year Mackenzie Kleefisch each got four on target that were saved as the Cougars led 2-1 entering the fourth.
- Simmons scored with less than six minutes to go as Alex Wemple scored off a feed from Clio Cook-Sharp to tie the contest at 2-2.
- With less than two minutes to play, Bass brought the ball up the right side of the field and sent the ball through the left side of the circle that found Lee, with Lee finding the back of the cage as the scarlet and white prevailed 3-2.
