NEW LONDON, Conn. - Clark men's soccer (1-3-2, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) traveled to Coast Guard (3-2-1, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) for their NEWMAC opener and despite scoring the first goal of the match, the Cougars fell 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from Nitchman Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Jaime Pedraza recorded the first save of the afternoon the second minute before fellow senior Carter Benoff created a chance that was stopped by Samuel Linkous in the ninth minute.
- Sophomore Jacob Ordonez broke the scoreless tie in the 10th minute as he received the ball off a pass from Nicholas Dorr before Ordonez fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal as the Cougars took a 1-0 advantage.
- Dorr and Ordonez each recorded shot attempts over the next 15 minute of play and after Ryan Gottschalk hit the crossbar, the Bears tied the match at 1-1 as Oliver Perry found Cole Miller with a ball that made it through the box in the 38th minute.
- Clark earned a pair of corner kicks over the first 16 minutes of the second half before first-year Julian Dubash created a dangerous chance at the top of the goal that was stopped by Linkous in the 61st minute.
- Between the 78th and 81st minutes, Pedraza tallied three saves to keep the match tied at 1-1 before Miller found Ryan Gottschalk across the box as the Bears took a 2-1 advantage in the 85th minute.
- First-year Ryan Hoffelder attempted Clark's last shot of the match in the 89th minute, but missed the target as the Cougars fell 2-1.
