NEWPORT, RI – The Clark University volleyball team (4-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened up conference play with a road match at Salve Regina (5-8, 1-0 NEWMAC) and dropped the contest in three sets on Tuesday night from the Rodgers Recreation Center.
The Cougars fell 25-20 in the first set, were bested 25-14 in the second, and dropped the third 25-13.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 8-6 lead as sophomore Ashlyn Moquin, senior Katelyn Williams, and junior Isabella Alcott while senior Winifred Gakidis picked up a service ace as well as a block.
- Alcott, first-year Cadence Martin, and Gakidis all collected kills in the middle of the set before a combined block from Gakidis and Alcott pulled Clark within one at 15-14.
- Salve Regina rattled off eight of the next nine points, with the Clark point coming off an Alcott kill before the Cougars answered with four unanswered points as Alcott added two more kills, but Salve rallied to take the set 25-20.
- The Seahawks went on a 7-1 run to open the second despite a kill from Alcott off an assist from senior Harper Chinn before Moquin and Alcott combined for a block to pull Clark back within four.
- Moquin, Alcott, Williams, and junior Abigail Venis, with senior Julia Dopazo and junior Hannah Harrington each collecting assists to tie the set at 9-9.
- In the middle of the set, Gakidis and Martin combined for a block, but the Seahawks went on an 8-2 run to take a 17-11 edge.
- Gakidis and Alcott collected Clark's final points of the set with kills as they fell 25-14.
- The Cougars jumped out to a 7-6 advantage in the third set sparked by a kill from Alcott and a service ace from Chinn.
- Salve Regina went on a 10-1 run and before the end of the match, first-year Julia Crockett tallied a kill and Chinn registered another service ace as the Seahawks took the third set 25-13.

- Clark tallied 22 kills, 21 assists, 29 digs, five blocks, and three service aces.
- Alcott led the Cougars with nine kills and added five digs.
- Dopazo (9) and Harrington (8) led the team in assists.
