WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (4-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) opened Hall of Fame Weekend with a match against Emerson (11-1, 2-0 NEWMAC). Prior to the opening serve, the Cougars honored Laura Habacker '85, who was a pivotal piece of Clark Volleyball both as a player and a coach. After the start of the match, Emerson gained control, taking all three sets to pick up its 11th win in 12 matches.

How it Happened

  • Emerson ultimately tied the set at 9-9, with a kill from first-year Cadence Martin putting the Cougars briefly back in front. Later, a kill from Alcott tied the set again at 15.
  • From there, the Lions pulled away with a six-point run to close the set at 25-17.
  • Emerson carried the momentum into the second set, gaining a 7-2 advantage despite a kill from senior Winifred Gakidis.
  • Senior Katelyn Williams recorded a kill, with service aces from Alcott and Gakidis, but the Lions secured the second set, 25-12.
  • Emerson jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but five straight points from the Cougars, fueled by a kill from junior Abigail Venis and an ace from senior Harper Chinn, tied the match again at six apiece. Alcott then picked up her second kill of the set to give Clark a 7-6 edge.
  • With the score 17-16 in favor of the Lions, Emerson pulled away, with Alcott fighting back with a late kill and ace, but the Lions ultimately secured the 25-19 third-set win and the 3-0 match victory.
