Reiter Surpasses 300 Career Saves in Loss to MIT

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (4-4, 0-2 NEWMAC) hosted MIT (4-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) in a conference showdown on a windy Saturday afternoon. Before the game, Clark honored 2026 Hall of Fame inductee Mel Melkonian '13, one of the most dominant players in Division III field hockey history. Following the opening whistle, the Engineers scored the opening goal in the first quarter, adding three more in the second, to pull away and win 5-0.

How it Happened

  • The first strike of the game came off a penalty corner, with Drew Hussar finding Audrey Oh for the opening goal of the game by MIT.

  • Two more shots would reach the cage for the Engineers, but senior Rachel Reiter made a pair of saves to keep the game at 1-0 at the first quarter break.

  • Reiter would add two saves in the first five minutes of the second quarter, including a stellar diving save on a penalty stroke.

  • A minute following that effort, the Engineers would break through, with Ingrid Tomovski assisting Jane Tortorella for the second goal of the game.

  • Then Meredith Wu would find Grace Chrapowitsky five minutes later to make it 3-0 for MIT.

  • Sophomore Sedona Lee would fire the first shot on goal for the Cougars two minutes later, but the save would be made to keep the deficit at three.

  • Reiter would make three more saves in the final three minutes of the half, but the Engineers would earn another penalty stroke, this time finishing the attempt off the stick of Wu. This made it a 4-0 game at the halftime horn.

  • MIT would secure their fifth goal three minutes into the second half, with Tomovski finding the back of the cage for an unassisted goal.

  • Lee would fire another shot, but it would be blocked, with Reiter adding a pair of saves as the third quarter ended with a 5-0 score.

  • Another shot from Lee would be blocked to start the fourth, with first-year Nina Pierson putting a shot on goal that was also steered away.

  • Reiter would make three saves in the final seven minutes of the game as the final horn sounded with MIT in front 5-0.

Inside the Box Score
