Volleyball Downed by Coast Guard in NEWMAC Play

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (4-7, 0-3 NEWMAC) traveled to Coast Guard (9-3, 1-1 NEWMAC) for their second road NEWMAC contest of the season and fell 3-0 to the Bears on Tuesday night from Roland Hall.

The Cougars fell 25-18 in the first set, were bested 25-14 in the second, and dropped the third 25-13.

How it Happened
  • The scarlet and white jumped out to a 3-1 lead to start the first set as junior Isabella Alcott tallied a kill off a feed from senior Julia Dopazo and senior Katelyn Williams registered a service ace before Coast Guard went on a 7-1 run.
  • In the middle of the set, Clark scored four of five points as Williams recorded a pair of kills and Alcott registered a kill and a service ace before first-year Julia Crockett added a kill off a feed from junior Hannah Harrington as the Cougars trailed 13-10.
  • Over the remainder of the set, Alcott recorded three kills as Dopazo and Harrington registered assists as the scarlet and white fell 25-18.
  • Williams opened the second set with a kill before Alcott and first-year Cadence Martin each tallied kills as the Cougars trailed 13-7.
  • Alcott registered four more kills in the set, while Martin tallied another kill and Harrington recorded a service ace as the Bears took the set 25-14.
  • Clark opened the third set with a 4-3 lead as Alcott and Dopazo each recorded points before the Bears went on a 6-2 run.
  • Senior Winifred Gakidis, Alcott, and junior Abigail Venis combined for five kills over the remainder of the set as the Cougars were bested 25-13.

What's Next
Clark will return to the court on Saturday when they travel across town for a pair of contests opening with WPI at 11:00 a.m. and concluding with a 1:00 p.m. game against Mount St. Mary College.
